Combining a relaxed, country town vibe with sophisticated city slick food, SOUTH on Albany showcases the best of the NSW South Coast in a place that feels like home.

John Evans and Sonia Greig had always dreamt of opening a restaurant on the South Coast. They moved to the Shoalhaven from Sydney in 2008, after many holidays and falling in love with the stunning area. It took the couple five years to find the ideal space in the picturesque town of Berry for their new venture. The concept for SOUTH on Albany – modern Australian dining – perfectly combines John’s extensive experience as a chef and Sonia’s front-of-house expertise.

The restaurant has evolved into its current format so that John is always present doing what he loves — cooking in a small, intimate setting and crafting his elegant yet simple dishes. Real, honest food driven by flavour and truly seasonal produce.

Guests often say it feels like dining in a friend’s home at SOUTH on Albany. There are lots of personal touches, including beautiful linen napkins, stunning native blooms and unique ceramics created across the years by local potters, which are now very much a signature of the restaurant.

The wine and drinks list has a strong sense of place. Sonia loves sharing some hidden gems shining the spotlight on the Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands, Canberra, broader NSW and Australia. Always seeking out new wines, beers & spirits from established and emerging producers to continue evolving the drinks list in line with our Chef’s Menu.

You’ll feel welcome from your very first step inside, with staff who are always happy to share their wealth of knowledge about the local and surrounding regions, recommending wineries, restaurants and places to visit. Located just a two-hour drive from Sydney’s CBD, SOUTH on Albany is the perfect dining destination for a memorable meal.
